If in ancient time the significance of wedding bouquet was related to protection and gods’ tribute, the meaning of this now is related to the main character of the wedding. Tradition says the wedding bouquet is the bride itself. They way it looks represent the personality and way of thinking. And this is not far away of the nowadays beliefs, as bride’s choose their wedding bouquets according to their preferences, to what they like or not.
Apart from this, fertility is another meaning of wedding bouquet. As flowers and herbs bloom so the fertility had to be in grooms’ life. This was an important aspect so that the flowers were very carefully selected, according to each one’s signification; for example aphrodisiac herbs were very requested, as they had a powerful influence.

Going further, another significance of wedding bouquet is the happiness. The bride’s bouquet is the symbol of shared love and consequently, of the happiness of this fact. So, the traditional wedding requires the groom to give to his bride the bouquet before going to the church.
The same meaning is for the throwing the bouquet, at the end of the wedding party. As bride is now a lucky person and already accomplished her goal to get married she can pass her luck to others unmarried ladies, as they will meet the right man and get married sooner. Consequently, the one that catches bride’s wedding bouquet receives also the veil and it is said that the next year she will be the one to get married.
Nowadays, some of these significances have lost and the wedding bouquet remains more as an accessory, a decorative item. Others think that for a happy wedded life grooms and especially brides have to take into consideration all the significations of a wedding bouquet, that is way the symbolism of flowers in it became so popular and a criteria for most of the future brides. But after all, only love is the key, the respect and comprehension between the man and woman are responsible for a long lasting marriage.
