Preserve Wedding Bouquet

If you want to maintain the memory of your wedding alive, you can begin by preserving your bridal bouquet. There are two ways in which you can do this. The first variant takes much longer to complete but the result will be more to your liking. First of all, you have to take some photographs of the bouquet from different angles. This is vital because once you untangle the flowers you have to know how to put them back together. Once the photos are taken, you should place the bouquet in a cool place, preferably the refrigerator, in order to maintain it as fresh as possible.

The flowers should be wrapped in plastic (but be careful not to squash them) and held in the fringe for 24 hours. Afterward, the bouquet is taken apart with care so as to avoid destroying the stems. You will need large vessels or containers that have to be filled with sand, borax or silica gel in which you will place each individual flower. The elements mentioned above are great for drying up the flowers. In order to be preserved accurately, the flowers have to lose the water they hold, and one of the three elements can absorb it completely. Once the flowers are placed in the vessels, you need to cover them up and leave them so for a couple of days. If the bouquet consists of smaller flowers, you can take them out of the vessels in three or four days, but if they are larger, you might be required to wait a whole week until the drying process is completed.

Afterwards, take the flowers out of the borax or gel and begin rearranging them in the bouquet. If you do not recall the exact place each flower occupied in the bouquet, you can consult the photos you have take before beginning your preservation process. Once the arrangement is done, you should use a dried flower spray or even hair spray to pulverize the bouquet so as to protect it.

The other variant you have is much easier and consists of ‘hang drying’ the bouquet. It implies keeping the flowers upside down in a chilly place for about a week. You have to make sure that the sun rays don’t get to the bouquet because otherwise the flowers are compromised. When the week has passed, you can spray them for protection. This method is not as efficient as the previous one and the flowers will lose much of their color.
