Hindu Wedding Decorations

The Hindu wedding is a very special event in Hindu ancient traditions. There are a lot of steps to go to the very end of the Hindu ceremony. The Hindu people don’t have much personal taste when it comes to weddings, because their traditional customs don’t allow them to change much of it. But the richness and the variety of the Hindu ceremonies compensate for this.

Concerning these traditional habits, the decorations and the flowers have a very special meaning. In some regions, the Hindu ceremony is held in the bride’s house, or, rarely, at a temple. No matter where the wedding takes place, the couple must sit on a beautiful stage, adorned with a garland flower canopy, with their names in it. The color accents are very high and constant. Red and gold represents the main color of the wedding, which are the theme of the flower adornments of the table, tent and dresses as well.

The flowers are considered to be sacred and symbolize happiness and joy of living. The holly flowers from the Hindu wedding represent a holy ritual themselves. The exchanging of the garlands between the bride and the groom is as important as the exchange of the wedding rings. The holy flowers from the Hindu wedding the couple exchange in between, are called Varmala and is a great known symbol for love.

These garlands are a little bit longer than those used in Hawaiian weddings, and are made of bright colored flowers. The petals that are thrown at the end of the ceremony above the couple are usually jasmine petals. Regarding to the adornments of a Hindu wedding, most of the decoration process consists in the embellishment of the bride. She usually wears a red dress, named sari, or a gold one.

The groom is not allowed to see the bride, and he is being kept behind a specific curtain. All this time, the bride’s parents must convince him to accept their daughter in as a wife, by giving him fruit gifts and feet bathing. The ceremony ends with another sacred ritual, in which the couple is meant to spread brown sugar and cumin seed on top each other’s head. The significance of this particular ritual is to symbolize the beginning of a new life, one holy matrimony life. After they adorn each other with a golden necklace, they throw for the last time the rice over their heads, and the couple is getting ready to surround a fire. Prayers for their new life together are being held on each step they make together.

There are many rituals and ways of organizing a Hindu wedding, but that differs from area to area, and depends on the main taste of each region in part. Each part of the wedding is considered to be sacred and holy, that is why no one can break these laws. A Hindu wedding is quite ample and sometimes can last for a couple of days. Planning such an interesting wedding could mean consulting an astrology calendar, to make sure that the best period of ear is being chosen for the big day of the couple.
