Chinese Wedding Flowers
Weddings are the events that through their displaying give the family the opportunity to insert elements that have been traditionally inherited as customs. Through a wedding celebration everything that relates to national identity in the definition of people can find its reflection in the unfolding of wedding costumes, flowers and/or music and dancing. The decorations carry within themselves symbols of national and/or spiritual identity, therefore their presentation inside a wedding festivity plays an important role.
The same happens with the Chinese wedding, where the unfolding of tradition is performed in a variety of symbolic colors of wedding attires and decorative items, among them being particularly the presence of flowers. Nature in its exposure is filled with meanings that most of the times are overlooked, but Chinese people are powerfully connected to nature’s symbols, this is the reason why
Chinese wedding flowers play in their turn a significant role.

The nature’s symbols and signs surround our daily existence and they generously share their meanings with us in an attempt to transfer their positive energy to our own being. Chinese people have always honored the presence of nature around them, and most of all the presence of blooms have always been a source of inspiration in the Chinese poetry both the ancient one and the modern one. And as much the availability of nature seems to be at our reach, its essence is rather subtle and not that easy to grasp at.
This is the reason why plenty of messages have been given to the presence of flowers, the nature’s beauties which in their motions (sowing and growing) began to interrelate so well with the human existence. And since these messages inside the presentation of a flower can be easily deciphered, Chinese people prefer to use them as messengers in the displaying of a wedding celebration. The Chinese wedding flowers most commonly met inside a wedding event are seen as natural nectar that brings fulfillment and new beginnings into couple’s life.

And as such we meet Chrysanthemums, signifying a life of ease, and the flowers to bring good luck in our home; hydrangeas are the flowers to symbolize gratitude, love and enlightenment, most of the times becoming a thank you gift for a hero that has emerged into our lives. Lotus symbolizes to the Chinese people the purity and perfection and the victory of the spirit over the material. Orchids are the emblems of fertility and symbols of perfection, higher growth; its beauty and delicacy being noticed by our spirit we are enabled to capture the same beauty into our spiritual life.
The most popular bloom that is used not only in the wedding celebrations, being highly regarded is the peony; it is considered the most exquisite of all the flowers carrying at the same time the symbol for value and nobility. This is the reason why it has been given also the name of “king of flowers”. Citron flowers are used inside a wedding festivity standing as the symbol for happiness and luck. The veil of a Chinese bride is another decorative item having an intricate structure with various meanings, the veil’s fabric symbolic imprints depicting most of the times floral motifs patterns which in their turn are carriers of significant meanings as well.
