After Wedding Bouquet

Romanian weddings are full of traditions, starting with the engagement moment until the wedding`s end. Nevertheless, most of the weddings are organized so how to respect the traditions: grooms first dance at the beginning of the wedding, stealing the bride, sharing the cake, throwing the bouquet and then tacking of the bride`s veil. These are the most important issues regarding a traditional Romanian wedding.




After throwing the wedding bouquet the bride take off her veil and gives it to the lady who got her bouquet. This moment is so called “undress the bride”. The same thing exists for the groom too. After he gets his bride`s garter he thrown it, behind his back, to a group of men. The one who gets it will receive groom`s flower. So, those 2, the lady and that man, will be the next ones to get married.

There is also specifics dances and songs for the moment after wedding bouquet, which reveals groom`s decisions to receive the rank of grown up persons, to become a man and a woman in the most deep signification.

These emotional moments marks the end of a wedding. The grooms start to collect the money from each and every guest, by putting them in a miniature house, a symbol for the fact that the guests will contribute to the grooms future house they will make together. Then, with their godparents, counts them and announces the amount of money they have. It is a popular belief that this moment is a way of showing if the guests were pleased about the whole event and so they rewarded the grooms with lots of money

Apart from this, traditions exists for some events after the wedding is over. For examle, the groom makes the first step into the house with the right foot and his bride in his arms. This thing has ancients bonds, regarding bad spirits waiting in front of the door. So, to be protected with his wife the man takes it in his arms.

After that, the next day takes place the so called “second wedding”;the siblings gather together to congratulate again the couple and share impressions about that night.

Above all this, it is not necessary to follow exactly those steps, or really believe it`s significations. But, it is very interesting to know from where comes a certain fact or rumor. After all, in time, those practices remained just history, because now people give them others perspectives. For example, the honey moon. Ancient people invented this expression, due to the fact that on that time men used to kidnap ladies and some how oblige them to marry. So, they believed that a month away from the family will make them fall in love. Moreover, they used to seduce them with a drink made with honey. But, nowadays honey moon means totally love and desire to be only one with the other.

All in all, traditions and old beliefs will not change one`s life. So, after the wedding bouquet the just-married couple start to enjoy life in two.
